You can delete your Trust Orbit account at any time, directly from the app:
You may also request account deletion by emailing us at [email protected] with the subject line "Account Deletion Request" and your registered email address. We will respond within 30 days of receipt.
Account deletion is not a simple "erase everything" operation. Trust Orbit is a shared ledger of confirmed debts and payments between people, so your data is handled carefully to protect both your privacy and the integrity of other users' records.
When you delete your account, the following personal information is permanently anonymized and removed from the app:
Result: after deletion, no one can identify you in the app. Your profile is anonymized.
The following data is retained in anonymized form, because these are shared records, not your personal data:
Why? A confirmed charge is a mutual agreement between two people. Once both parties confirm a payment, it becomes part of both of your histories. If you could delete your data and retroactively erase that transaction from your counterparty's record, you would be able to damage their reputation score or rewrite their financial history, even though they confirmed it. Trust Orbit doesn't allow one party to unilaterally alter another party's confirmed records; shared ledger integrity is a core principle of the app.
This is the one exception to "your data is anonymized, not destroyed," and it's important. If you created and own a group (for example, a shared household or trip), deleting your account permanently deletes that entire group, including for every other member. Other members lose their membership, and any shared charges or reminders tied to that group lose their group context. They are not notified in advance; this happens as an automatic consequence of your account deletion. Before you confirm deletion, the app will show you a list of any groups you own that have other members, so you can decide whether to transfer or wind down the group first.
Groups you merely belong to (created by someone else) are not affected: you're simply removed as a member, and the group continues for everyone else.
When you delete your account:
Depending on where you live, for example if you are in Costa Rica or another jurisdiction with data-protection laws, you may have rights to:
You can view most of your personal data directly in the app (profile, charges, payments, trust score, etc.). To request a complete data export in machine-readable format, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
You can update your profile information (name, avatar, payment details) directly in the app at any time. If you believe a charge or payment record is inaccurate, contact the other party to dispute it, or reach out to us at [email protected].
The app does not currently have a self-service export button. To request a copy of your personal data, email [email protected] with the subject "Data Export Request." We'll send your personal data in a readable format (CSV or JSON) within 30 days.
Use the in-app account deletion flow (see "How to Delete Your Account" above), or email [email protected]. Understand that transaction records involving other users will be retained in anonymized form as described above.
If you have concerns about how Trust Orbit processes your data, contact us at [email protected]. We'll explain our practices and work with you to address your concerns.
Response timeline: we aim to respond to all data requests within 30 days. If your request is complex, we may request an extension. All responses will comply with applicable data-protection laws, including those of Costa Rica.
If there are unconfirmed charges (charges you created but the other party hasn't marked as paid, or payments you initiated but the other party hasn't confirmed), those records may be deleted along with your account since they're not yet mutual agreements. Contact us at [email protected] if you have questions about specific pending charges.
